Old Pulteney 17yo & anCnoc 22yo

So I’ve reviewed many of the Old Pulteney, anCnoc and Balblair range, but I’ve missed these two gems out of the list, so without further ado let’s remedy that!

Old Pulteney 17yo – 46% abv

Info: “Aged in both American and Spanish oak casks, the mid-range Old Pulteney 17 Year Old strikes the perfect balance between maturity and distillery’s signature coastal style, winning hearts of whisky enthusiasts the world over.”
Colour: Gold with light bright tints.
Nose: Malty, grassy and creamy. Very slight herbal notes, touches of metallic tang.
Palate: Oily and fairly thick feeling. Gently spicy which stays fairly constant, not building or fading. There’s a slight wine element to this. Layered bourbon with small sherry hints to sweeten it up a little.
Finish: Gentle and long; it sticks around for ages. Slight touches of cask char, and a gentle sweetness.
Thoughts: A very enjoyable malt, good quality and fun! It’s won plenty of awards, and I can see why!

anCnoc 22yo – 46% abv

Info: Matured in ex-bourbon casks, but there’s also some Spanish casks seasoned with Oloroso sherry for two years.
Colour: Fully golden.
Nose: Rich and malty, fruity complex and relaxed. Plenty of red apples and wintery stewed fruits.
Palate: Fairly thick and oily, a good pinch of spices; it’s fairly punchy even at this age. There’s plenty of malt, and older touches of leather, with a gentle sweetness from the increased time in sherry casks which add their wintery fruit stew flavours.
Finish: Fairly spicy finish, nice and long and really warming. Small handful of nuts and some gentle oak but not overly tannin led.
Thoughts: For a 22yo it’s full of life, that said it’s still a fairly relaxed malt to spend some time with on a cold evening.
