Review: Highland Park Fire Edition

highland park fire bottleHighland Park Fire Edition – 15 Year Old – 45.2% abv

Info: Highland Park Fire Edition is the second of a two part series, which started with Ice Edition. It was matured in 100% refill Port seasoned casks (I’m not totally sure what that means, how long were they seasoned for?). 28,000 bottles, natural colour.

Colour: Gold, with just the smallest hint of pink.

Nose: Musty, dusty, heathery floral malt with hints of sweet smoke, cinnamon and dark chocolate. With enough time hints of barley start to come out. There’s notes of black and red wine gums.

Palate: Fairly oily and nicely sweet, with spices that build quite quickly. There are smoky embers intermingled with those fruity wine gum flavours and dried peel.

Finish: Reasonably sweet and quite long with heathery, fruity malt, spices and oaks hanging around.

Thoughts: It’s great! It’s 15 Years Old for nearly £200… It’s maybe not that great. That said, there are some serious Highland Park fans out here, and you won’t be disappointed with this I’m sure, especially if you’re also a Port matured whisky fan, because this has been matured very well in Port that’s for sure. The more time I spent with this, the more it grows on me as a great whisky. This is the last in the series of releases, however there will be a new series of releases coming out next year!

Available: Master of Malt – £190 (pre order)
