Laphroaig – Cairdeas 2013 Port Wood Edition – 51.30%

Let’s call this a dapper golden pink in colour. Laphroaig on the nose, but just slightly restrained, gentle peat and fruit jostling together, not so much tcp. Smooth malty peat, slightly tarry as normal, but with a fruit sweetie nature behind it all. Fresh, sweet but well balanced finish. I really enjoy this, all nicely integrated with the port wood. A well priced session / drinking dram this.

Bruichladdich – Laddie Five-O Feis Ile 2013 – 47.70%

‘A vatting of various selected vintages’.
Perfectly golden colour joins the perfectly fantastic nose; it’s oaky, fruity (red apples), rich and old, with a touch of polish. On the palate it’s smooth, full and oily with gentle spices, and excellently balanced sweetness. Well rounded medium to long finish that’s easy as anything, and beautifully warming on your chest (well aged malts in this I guess!). Multi-layered and engaging dram.

Bunnahabhain – Sgeul Na Mara – 10yo – 60.10%

“Sgeul Na Mara” is Gaelic for ‘Tales of the Sea’. This is a sherried beauty. Colour is (lightish) gold. The nose is… Wow! Lovely, best of the three. Creamy, buttery, fruity and sweet. Hot on palate (high ABV), but richly mouth coating with sweet malty fruit goodies, it’s excellent. Is it a PX cask? Either way raisins come through easily a the heat subsides. Long, full and rich fruity finish.
